About Us

Him:  Libra.   Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Virginia Tech.  Sings and plays guitar in a punk rock band.  Software engineer by day, enthusiastic Soapist on evenings and weekends.  Enjoys long walks on the beach, thunderstorms, and reading by the fireplace.

As a society, we’ve become far too dependent on mass-produced products.  Large corporations are interested in only one thing:  Profit.  Chemicals like Tetrasodium EDTA and 2,6-Di-t-butyl-p-cresol have no business in bar soap.  These chemicals are used because they’re cheaper than using natural ingredients and time-tested methods.

Once you try real soap, you’ll never go back to the grocery store brands.

Richmond Soap Studio
Her:  My grandma had beautiful hands.  Her secret?  Years of kneading bread dough that was slathered in olive oil.  So, when my husband suggested making our soap using a castile soap recipe (primarily olive oil), I wholeheartedly agreed.

After graduating VCU in History & Art History, I laid my roots permanently in Richmond.  The charm, history, architecture, and neighborhoods made it “easy to love” (to quote a recent downtown marketing campaign), and also made it the perfect muse when creating our soap fragrances.

I hope you’ll love the way our soap cleans and conditions your skin AND the way it evokes some of our favorite Richmond places.
